Holy Ghost Retreat (Power as of Old) – Day 2

HOLY EUCHARISTIC SERVICE
The priests from Imo Archdeaconry led the Holy Eucharistic Service. The service started with I.O.M 146. The Ven. A.A Ajadi led the Ante-communion part.
While delivering his sermon, The Rev’d Can. K.B Opajobi took his text from Act 2: 14. He said Gid is willing to release His power to us as Christian like is the days of the apostles.
Creed to prayer was taken by the Rev’d Can. P.O Adewuyi and the greeting of peace by the Ven. I. O Ariyo who also celebrated the Holy Eucharist. The processional out hymn was I.O.M 44.
BIBLE STUDY SESSION: VEN. M.O AKINOLA
The theme of the Bible was Power as of Old and the sub theme: The power of the living God. The texts were Act: 2:1-14, Psalm 147:5, John 16:32, Acts 17:27. The conclusion at the Bible study was that God is matchless in all manifestations.
TALK 2: THE KINGDOM POWER BY THE REV’D CANON G.A.D EWULUM
The Rev’d Can. Ewulum said there is no kingdom without it’s own power. The gospel is the power of God. The signs of the kingdom of God are to cast out devil’s, speak in tongues, take up serpent and heal the sick. That is the demonstration of the power of God. Mark 16: 15-18

TALK 3: ‘SOARING LIKE EAGLE’ by Evang. J. N. O. Olowookere
Evang. Olowookere started this session with the song “All the glory must be to the Lord” and prayer follows. Jesus said it affirmatively that all power in heaven and on earth belongs to him and ordered us to go…… Matt 28: 18 – 20. If anyone is not having this power of God, he then lacks the authority.
In Isaiah 40, God was encouraging and comforting the church before verse 31 of the chapter because the church lost focus. The condemnations of the church were mentioned before verse 31 which started with the word “BUT”. Four things will happen to whoever waits upon the Lord.
They shall renew their strength.
They shall mount up with wings as eagles.
They shall run and not be weary.
They shall walk and not faint.
Christianity is a race to run. If we don’t wait upon the Lord, we will not have strength to run. 2Tim 4:7. Christianity is a journey.
10 things to learn in the life of eagles:
Eagles are united.
Eagles fly alone, not with any other type of birds.
Eagles don’t eat stale meat. They eat fresh meat.
Eagles are very faithful, particularly the female eagles.
Eagles are birds of vitality.
Eagles are very good manager, particularly the females ones. They train their younger ones. Proverbs 22:6.
Eagles face challenges of life. They spread their wings when there is heavy storm and fly.
Eagles wear spectacles. They fly in flames of fire to pick burnt animals.
Eagles have 5 times better sight than human being. An eagle can sight another eagle 50 miles afar.
Eagles are focused and disciplined birds.
Eagles go and retreat to refill themselves and prepare ahead of other tasks.
REVIVAL AND PRAYER by Ven. Ernest Akinnubi
Ven. Akinnubi said God is still in the business of saving His people. He affirmed that God has not changed. The snake of Moses swallowed all the snakes of the magicians, that is the power of God. The mercy of God stands forever. He prayed for the power of God that changes not. He urged everyone to seek the power of God.
BIBLE EXPOSITION by Ven. T. K. Olojede
The Ven. T. K. Olojede titled the Bible exposition “The coming of the Holy Spirit”. When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place…… Acts 2: 1-4. The Holy Spirit came upon 120 disciples in the temple court along with a sound from Heaven, other tongues. The coming of the Holy Spirit to us in this retreat must be with a joyful noise.

The first duty of the Holy Spirit in the Anglican Church today is to aid the true children of God in praising the Holy Trinity .The second is to assist the members of God’s kingdom in their prayer life. The third is to unite the born again Christians with the love of God.
REVIVAL/WARFARE PRAYER II by Ven. Kehinde Johnson
All scriptures is given by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. He charged us to give our life to Christ to become a new creature. Anyone who gives his life to Christ and does the will of God will surely make heaven. Whosoever that is called to do something of benefit to humanity is a minister. According to him, Power refers to a variety of ideas relating to ability, capacity and authority.
