The service of confirmation and commissioning of acolytes was held today at the Cathedral Church of St John, Iloro, Ilesa. The service started with the Processional Hymn, I.O.M. 420 after which the Cathedral Praise Team led the congregation tin songs of praises to God.
The Ven. A. T. Ajayi led the ante-communion. The Old Testament (Exodus 3:13-20) was read by Evang. Oyeleye, Psalm 119: 129-144 by Evang. Chief Mrs Oginni, Epistle (Romans 8:26-39) by Rev. Canon S. S. Oluwatayo and the Gospel (Matthew 10: 16-22) by Rev S. T. Adekomaya.The Provost of the Cathedral, The Very Rev D. I. Fadugba presented the candidates to be confirmed.
The Diocesan Bishop, The Rt Rev Prof Dapo Aṣaju examined the candidates to be confirmed and led the congregation to pray for them. He confirmed the candidates and confirmation certificates were given to them. Twenty two (22) candidates were confirmed.
After the confirmation was the commissioning of the acolytes. The Rev’d A. O. Banjo presented the Acolytes to be commissioned. The Bishop examined them and led the congregation to pray for them. He commissioned them and certificates were given to them. Thirty eight (38) acolytes were commissioned.
While delivering his sermon, The Diocesan Bishop, The Rt Rev Prof Dapo Aṣaju mentioned the importance of baptism and the need for God parents in baptism. He said it is necessary to do confirmation in the Anglican Church after baptism because confirmation is the rite of admission to the full communion of the Church.
Acts 8:18; 2Tim 1:6. He also congratulated the acolytes. He charged them to live a life of holiness and purity, full of Holy Ghost. He also charged the elderly ones to train their children in the way of the Lord.
The Rev. Canon E. O. Ekunleye continued from the Nicene Creed to Prayers. The Provost celebrated the Holy Eucharist.
The service ended with the Processional Out Hymn, I. O. M. 500.
